I decided to have a little fun with my blog as a birthday present to myself. Today is my 21st birthday and being a student doesn’t exactly allow for extravagance, so why not throw myself an imaginary dream birthday party? You don’t have to worry about caterers, seating arrangements or who to invite; there are no travel woes, hair catastrophes or M.I.A. photographers. Heck, everyone should throw themselves a fake party! So, in a self-centred ode to myself, here is my dream party inspired by pop culture; and you never know, maybe one day my dreams will come true…
You Are Cordially Invited to a Birthday Party!
Venue: Monte Carlo Casino

Inspired by: Alfred Hitchcock’s 1954 film “To Catch a Thief” starring Cary Grant and Grace Kelly. Set in Monte Carlo, I was not only ga-ga for Grant- I went ga-ga for the stunning casino.
Decor: Elegant, unique and colourful

Inspired by: Set in Siam, the 1956 film “The King and I,” features beautiful flowers and elegant fabrics.
Dress code: Formal (Gowns for the gals and suits for the gents).

Inspired by: Bravo TV’s “The Rachel Zoe Project.” When Rachel saw this Oscar de la Renta gown on the runway, she wasn’t the only one who “died”- I totally went “bananas” over this beautiful piece.
Music: Lively, fun dance music.
Inspired by: Fox’s hit show “Glee.” Perhaps even Will Schuester can “bust a move.”
Cake: Outrageous and delicious.

Inspired by: TLC’s “Cake Boss.” In one episode, they put fireworks in a cake- is there anything Buddy and his team can’t bake?
Entertainment: Gravity-defying amazement.

Inspired by: Cirque du Soliel. Watching KOOZA in Toronto was breathtaking.
R.S.V.P.: No need!
A dream party inspired by pop culture would be a blast, but as for the guests, no one on TV could compare. My friends and family are the best, and they’re all I need on the guest list. But Fantasy Factory’s Rob Dyrdek and Viva La Bam’s Bam Margera would sure be fun guests to have at a party…
